Titanium Watch

by Charles Tripp

The worlds hardest known element is Titanium and it has been used in everything from aircraft, artificial hips and can even be found in the International Space Station. Besides it's strength, Titanium is also know for being lightweight. It doesn't tarnish and it's also hypoallergenic. These characteristics are also the reason why Titanium watches are highly sought after.

Named after the Titans of Greek mythology, Titanium was first discovered in 1791 by a clergyman named William Gregor. Pure Titanium has never been found and must be extracted from other metals. Isolating Titanium was an expensive and labor intensive process until 1946 when William Justin Kroll invented a new, more efficient way to extract Titanium. The process would become known as the Kroll process and it's the reason why Titanium is much more readily available.

Titanium has many desirable properties that have made it the metal of choice in many different industries. Watch makers like working with the metal because it's so durable, yet so light weight.

Titanium watches and jewelry tend to look a lot like white gold, platinum or silver. Even though Titanium isn't a precious metal, it's still highly sought after because of the craftsmanship required to make a fine timepiece out of it.

Even people who normal couldn't wear a metal watch due to sensitive skin or allergies should look to Titanium for their next watch. It's hypoallergenic and it's also biocompatible. That means that it's non-toxic and the body won't reject it. And that's why it's a very popular metal to build surgical implants out of. Replace hips and other joints as well as some dental implants are made from Titanium. Now if people have no issues replacing their hip with Titanium, I think that wearing a watch band shouldn't create any problems.

Mens Titanium watches are an unconventional alternative to the same old silver, gold, or even platinum watches and they also cost less money. If you are looking for an outstanding watch that you can wear when you're getting all dressed up, going diving under the sea or even to work on a home improvement project, Titanium is what you are looking for.
